1. A city name pops up big on the map, then slips to the top-right corner — that’s your target.
2. Tap that city on this state’s own map. There’s no countdown — the clock at the top only shows how long you’ve been playing.
3. Wrong tap = that region flashes red and the map shakes, but the question stays — keep trying. Miss 3 times on one question and the right region starts blinking gold on and off (the rescue light). Tap it and you still get it right!
4. The Hint button is separate from the rescue light: it pulses the right city 3 times. Hover over the Hint button in the game to see exactly what it does. Hints are limited!
5. Really stuck? Skip / New Question moves you on (costs 1 heart). You can also Pause anytime and Resume when you’re ready.
⭐ Every city you find fills its region with its own piece of the US flag — the pieces join up as you play, and when the game ends the flag sweeps across the whole state.

PlayHow to Memorize the New York Map
Picture New York as a butterfly tilted sideways. The Adirondack Mountains form the upper wing, the long western arm stretches out like the lower wing reaching toward Lake Erie and Niagara Falls — and Long Island is the butterfly’s tail, streaming southeast into the Atlantic. The five boroughs of New York City sit right where the tail meets the body.
Once you see the butterfly, every question in the New York map quiz gets easier: Buffalo lives on the far western wingtip, Albany perches on the upper wing’s eastern edge, and Yonkers hugs the body just north of the tail.
Don’t confuse the state with the city
New York City is just one dot on the southeastern tip — about 300 square miles inside a 54,555-square-mile state. When a quiz asks for “New York,” check whether it means the whole butterfly or just the tail tip. And if you see Long Island streaming into the ocean, that’s New York every time — neighboring Pennsylvania is a plain rectangle with no tail.
